It’s something I’ve wanted to create for a long time — especially for autism & SEN educators.

It’s something I’ve wanted to create for a long time — especially for autism & SEN educators.

It launches tomorrow at 5PM.

Any guesses what it might be? 👀

Here’s how I’ve used monotropism to support learning in my classroom 👇

Monotropism is about deep focus on interests. Instead of trying to pull them away from that focus, we follow it. And honestly? That’s where the magic happens.

One of my pupils has a huge interest in balloons. So we always have balloons in our classroom.
Not as a reward.
Not as a “you can have this after you work”.
But as part of the learning itself.

And here’s what’s happened since we let that interest take the lead…

🎈 The children found the pumps from our peanut ball and figured out how to connect them to the balloons
🎈 They worked together — one holding the balloon, the other pumping
🎈 One child noticed that letting the air out in different ways makes different sounds and became completely absorbed in tone and pitch
🎈 We discovered balloon popping and learned that too much air won’t hold
🎈 We watched balloons float towards the fan and stay there as the air held them in place

That’s science.
That’s problem solving.
That’s communication.
That’s collaboration.
That’s curiosity.

And the most beautiful part?
That one child’s interest didn’t limit learning — it expanded it. Other children became interested in balloons in completely different ways, each engaging at their own level, in their own way.

This is why I don’t use children’s interests as motivation to make them do something else.
I use the interest inside the learning.

And that’s only one interest.
Imagine what happens when we truly let children lead.

It’s amazing. 🎈✨

I used to have a set routine. The visuals are still up, as some of the children will randomly choose an activity from them and show me what they’d like to do.

But I no longer follow it minute by minute.

We still have circle time. I still have 1:1 time with my students. We still do group activities — but everything is based on:
1. What the children are interested in
2. How they can take part in a way that’s comfortable for them

There’s no one leading them to a table or ensuring they sit.

Some children sit on a chair during activities, some on a peanut ball, some are spinning on a spinny chair. Others watch from a corner for a while with their favourite pillows until they feel comfortable enough to join.

A “bad day” in a special class doesn’t means bad behaviour.

More often, it means a child is overwhelmed.
It means regulation is hard.
It means the environment feels too loud, too fast, too unpredictable.
It means communication is breaking down — not because a child doesn’t want to engage, but because they’re struggling to cope.

On hard days, what we see on the outside is often just the final piece of a much bigger picture. Sensory overload, changes in routine, tiredness, anxiety, unmet needs — all of these can show up in ways that are easily misunderstood.

That’s why responses in a special class look different.
Support comes before consequence.

Progress isn’t measured by how “easy” the day was. Sometimes progress looks like getting through the day safely. Sometimes it looks like repairing after a hard moment. Sometimes it looks like learning more about what a child needs next time.

Hard days don’t mean failure — for children or for teachers.
They mean something needs adjusting, supporting, or rethinking.

And that understanding changes everything.

This is the most special part of my mam’s Christmas decorations🤍.
My nanny loved Christmas — she was always such a big part of it. I’d take her last-minute shopping every year and she’d forget to get me something because I was with her 😅
She’d light up seeing everything I got — from dolls when I was little to “well… show me what Tomás (my boyfriend) got you.”
She always loved mam’s decorations, so mam would buy her everything she pointed at.
We miss her more at Christmas than ever 🤍

Christmas in my home house❤️ My Mam and stepdad go all in at Christmas. They don’t just decorate — they build things. That arch at the front door? My stepdad made it from scratch, it’s amazing. The whole house is full of little creative touches they’ve done themselves — things you wouldn’t even think of, but somehow it all works. And every year, they make this quiet little space for my nanny. Nothing over the top, just a lovely detail that’s always there. Christmas in your home house is just different, isn’t it? It’s like being a child again. The smells, the sounds, the familiar chaos… you step inside and suddenly it’s like no time has passed. 🍪✨ The EASIEST Cookies & Top Hats You’ll Ever Make! ✨🍫
If you need a quick Christmas bake that looks impressive but takes zero effort, this is your sign. I made both of these in no time and they turned out so good!

🍪 Cookie Ingredients:
• 200g butter (I do half real butter, half Dairygold)
• 50g caster sugar
• 50g light brown sugar
• 300g self-raising flour
• 200g chocolate chunks

Mix, scoop, bake… done. They’re soft, gooey, and perfect with hot chocolate. 🤤

🎩 Top Hats:
• Melted chocolate
• Marshmallows
• Smarties
That’s literally it. Dip, stick, set. The kids LOVE these and they’re ideal for parties, treats, or classroom baking day.

So easy, so quick, and so festive! 🎄🫶🏻

Keelin has Tourette syndrome — and when he stepped onto the Toy Show stage, he got overwhelmed. But Dylan, his best friend, didn’t flinch. He comforted him. Grounded him. Made him feel safe. 💛

Later, when they both got emotional watching a message from Lewis Capaldi, they cried together… and instinctively shared the same tissue.

This wasn’t just sweet — it was a powerful, unspoken lesson in inclusion.

🎄✨ Make festive sensory rice with me!
One of my favourite Christmas activities because it’s so easy, so cheap, and the kids think it’s actual magic. All you need is:
✔️ Plain rice
✔️ A tiny drop of food colouring
✔️ A little splash of a festive scent (peppermint, vanilla, cinnamon… whatever you love!)

Give it a shake in a tub or bag and watch it transform instantly.
My top tip: only use a tiny bit of both the colouring and the scent — it dries much quicker and you don’t get that sticky clumpy rice situation. 🙈

Once it’s dry, it’s perfect for tuff trays, scooping, pouring, sensory bins and all the Christmas play! 🎅🏼🎁✨

Free entry which is a bonus! We had such a fun evening — the games were great craic but so expensive 😂 I won one and so did my friend so we can’t complain!

Really good rides + amusements for both kids and adults, and the food stalls were lovely (Yorkshire pudding wraps, loaded fries, pizza, burgers 😍).

But to be real…
– A lot of the same stalls repeated
– Not many little gift stalls
– Not a huge variety of food options
– Hot chocolate was a bit watery
– Big queues for entry, rides & food
– Parking was a nightmare 😅

Still a cute festive evening out, just be prepared! 🎅🏼✨
